Overview

Jamestown is one of two cities in Chautauqua County (Dunkirk is the other) and, with more than 31,000 residents, is the most populated municipality in the county. Jamestown is in the southeastern part Chautauqua County, bordered to the north and east by the town of Ellicott (and to the east by the village of Falconer), to the south by the towns of Kiantone and Busti, and to the west by Busti and the village of Celoron. Jamestown is just minutes from the southern shore of Chautauqua Lake and close to the lake’s bustling villages and the Chautauqua Institution.



Essentials

Jamestown has some specialty shops and plenty of supermarkets and is close to a lot of retail shopping options. For grocery shopping, Jamestown has a Wegmans supermarket and two Tops Friendly Markets stores as well as small stores like Save-a-Lot. For retail shopping, the village of Lakewood, only four miles west of Jamestown, has a Walmart Supercenter and the Chautauqua Mall, which has stores including JC Penney, Sears and more. The mall also has a movie-theater multiplex.



Recreation & Entertainment

Jamestown has lots of things to see and do. Along with the museums listed above, Jamestown is home to the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena (for concerts, major shows, hockey and conventions), the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts (called the “Showplace of the Chautauqua Region”), the Lucille Ball Little Theatre (which hosts five major productions annually), the Spire Theater and the Willow Bay Theater.



Transportation & Traffic

The Chautauqua County-Jamestown Airport is north of the city and provides scheduled and charter flights. Route 17, Route 60 and Route 394 pass through Jamestown.



Pros & Cons

There’s a lot to see and do in Jamestown, one of the busiest communities in Chautauqua County. Even still, the city has only about 31,000 residents, so it’s not too congested. You’re just minutes away from the southern shore of Chautauqua Lake and its charming lakeside villages.
