Welcome to Charlotte, NY

Overview

Charlotte is a town in central Chautauqua County, bordered to the north by Arkwright, to the east by Cherry Creek, to the south by Gerry and to the west by Stockton. Most of the village of Sinclairville is in the southwest corner of Charlotte (the rest is in the town of Gerry) and the town also has a few hamlets. Charlotte is located fairly centrally to the biggest municipalities in the county – Jamestown to the south, Dunkirk to the north and Chautauqua to the west. Charlotte and Sinclairville are part of the Allegheny River watershed, with Mill Creek (a tributary of Cassadaga Creek) running through the town.

Essentials

Sinclairville has a few small businesses, including the Sinclairville Superette on Main Street, and neighboring Stockton has a small Shur-Fine store. To the north in Fredonia (about 14 miles) is a Walmart Supercenter, the Fredonia Deli and Food mart and a Country Fair store.

Recreation & Entertainment

With this being such a rural, wide-open town, it’s no surprise that the main attractions here are of the outdoor variety. Fishing, camping and hunting are popular in the Charlotte area. In Sinclairville, The Marden E. Cobb Waterway Trail has two water trails, each more than 25 miles in length. The village also hosts an annual several-day concert event called Donnaroo. The neighboring town of Gerry holds an annual rodeo in the summer. Chautauqua, just west of Charlotte, has a wide variety of things to do and see, starting with the Chautauqua Institution.
