Overview The Erie Canal passes through the Town of Sweden, helping to define its character. Stretching over 33 square miles, Sweden is bordered by Orleans and Genesee Counties; and is home to the Village of Brockport and its State University. The area is noteworthy for its historical significance with many examples of 19th-century Victorian architecture still surviving; and for its farmland - a rich resource for the entire county. Many working farms can be found in the area, and local produce is available in several locations. Good to Know Brockport Fire Department currently serves the area, though there are changes in the works in terms of the organization. Anticipated transitions will be seamless, with "no worries" promised to residents. The Monroe County Sheriffs patrol the region. Dial 911 for any emergencies. Seymour Library is located at 161 East Avenue and provides library services for Sweden (585) 637-1050 www.seymourlibraryweb.org Local Museums & Landmarks The Sweden Farmers Museum, located at 4988 Lake Rd., includes an historic farmhouse and barn; and can be used for private functions… Lake View Cemetery on Lake Road, south of Brockport, is listed on the National Register of Historic places.

Who Lives Here Residents of the Town of Sweden include families who enjoy the rural atmosphere and solid school system, young people from SUNY Brockport who live both on and off campus, and a number of seniors who enjoy life in the country and the active programs offered by the town. Students attend Brockport Central Schools, a very solid system ranked highly in Monroe County for its academics, arts and sports program.

Essentials Some of the best shopping opportunities found in the outlying townships exist in Sweden. There's a Wegmans, a Walmart, and locally owned stores of all sorts. Most are located in and around Brockport. Between Route 104 and I-490 which run nearby, it's easy to travel to other areas within the county and beyond for recreational activities, shopping and entertainment.

Recreation & Entertainment In the area's largest village, Brockport, and along Brockport Spencerport Road and Rt. 19, you'll find many restaurants and pubs to enjoy; and SUNY Brockport offers all manner of shows - dance, theatre, concerts, fine arts, lectures and sporting events. Parks & Town Programs Sweden Town Park, located off Redman Rd., houses baseball and soccer fields, a pavilion and hiking trails… Northampton Park straddles the Town of Sweden and with entrances on Sweden Walker Rd. and Colby St. You’ll find downhill skiing, a working farm, hiking and camping available there (by permit)… The Sweden-Clarkson Community Center at 3927 Lake Rd. offers a multitude of programs for all ages… The Sweden Senior Center at 133 State St. provides lunch and special programs Monday thru Friday. Annual Events - Olde Northampton Heritage Day features open houses at area museums and historical societies; and a multitude of events are scheduled annually in the Village of Brockport - Sidewalk Sales, Arts Festivals and more.

Transportation & Traffic Routes19 (Lake Road) and 31 (Brockport Spencerport Road) are the main thoroughfare in the Town of Sweden; with Colby Road, West Avenue, and Redman Road also carrying a large part of the traffic. Generally speaking, traffic flows quite well in this region, however there can be a backup on Brockport Spencerport Road heading into the village of Brockport. Route 104 (Ridge Road West) runs just to the north of the town.

Pros & Cons The Town of Sweden offers the best of both worlds, according to many of its residents. It is rural enough to feature expansive farmland and homes with lovely big yards; and also provides everything a family could need to live comfortably. Commute time to the City of Rochester for employment is nearly a half-hour. Nature lovers and history buffs find Sweden an ideal location to set down roots.
